"Still not sure about performance" 2008-10-09
By J. Moody
I bought this iron and began comparing it to my old $7 Black & Decker Iron and it fell short in a few areas. It's a little weighty, which could be a good thing for pressing out stubborn wrinkles or bad when having to iron a lot. The cord is noticably about 2 foot shorter and heavier. It seems to get in the way more. Although it says anti-drip and no leaking, when I sit the iron down between garment sections it spits water from the soleplate and leaks water back out of the tank onto my hand. The temperature light tends to go on and off often, as though it can't keep warm. Still undecided whether I got a dud.

I have wanted one of these for year's. I believe the adjective for me would be "anal". My clothes have to be "just so". I am very pleased with the results with this Rowenta steamer. I just wish it would have a way of hanging it on a wall, so that it would be out of the way but accessible.

"Help me find the leak!" 2009-03-26
By Michael D. Young
Received this for Christmas and has been a disappointment. As one reviewer said, I suspect quality control issue as well. To those users of units that do NOT leak, please respond... Is there a gasket or o-ring anywhere around the connection of your hose to unit? Mine does not have one, and I'm wondering if there should be. Look at the L-shaped hose connector. I see it has two grooves that meet up with same in the unit, but no rubber-ish gasket. It's just plastic to plastic. Every time it "hiccups" as mentioned from others, it shoots out boiling hot water all over the floor. Watch your feet! Thank you for any intel!

 "Cheap chinese-made JUNK" 2009-02-08
By M. Richard
I received this steam cleaner as a wedding gift in August and it was in the dumpster by November. It did a decent job, but after about 6 uses it stopped making steam. I used tap water in the unit (which the manual said was okay), and suspected that scale had built up. I descaled with a vinegar solution but this did not solve the problem. Next I removed the bottom and found scale and corrosion all over the circuit board beneath the unit (you would think a device designed to hold water would be water tight and have a more protected circuit board). After cleaning the circuit board with a dry towel and re-assembling everything it worked twice more and then totally bit the dust. Could not resurrect it this time. I would never recommend this product and currently I am boycotting anything ROWENTA...cheap asian-made JUNK.

 "Intermittent steam" 2009-01-20
By Bogart (New Jersey)
The product omits steams for about ten seconds, spattering water while it does so, then stops for about 15 seconds. Very annoying. It's a steamer. I don't think a steady supply of steam is too much to ask.

"Good product for the price" 2008-12-27
By Happy Wife
I received this steamer as a wedding gift. I previously owned the Conair steamer. I'm very pleased with this steamer. Firstly, I like that it is compact and both the cord and the hose are able to be wrapped neatly. I think the key to steaming is to be patient. I make sure the hose is really steaming before I start. I use this to steam silky blouses I wear to work, my husbands more casual button-up shirts, and both of our work slacks. For my blouses and our trousers, the steamer works great. If you steam from the inside of the garment and slowly drag the hoze down, it works really well. The attachments have a carrying bag so they are easily stored, and it's really easy to attach the creaser. It doesn't give you as sharp creases as an iron would, but it works well for my purposes. There was only slight leaking, but far better than my previous steamer. As long as you keep the hose extended it won't leak too much. For the price, I think this is a pretty great steamer. I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a compact steamer.

 "Super Cover" 2009-01-04
By T. Skiff (San Francisco, CA USA)
I've had this ironing board and cover for over a year and was beginning to see scorch marks which transfer to damp items very readily. So, I washed it according to directions in warm/cool/delicate. Then I put it back on the board to dry in order to avoid any shrikage. It worked beautifully; like new. This is an expensive cover so being able to extend its life is a real plus. Many covers cannot be washed or come out of the wash in poor condition. At the time I bought the board, I bought an extra cover at a good price but am happy to say I won't be needing it for some time.

"Rowenta ZD6030 Expert Iron Board Cover" 2008-08-01
By B. O'Neill (New Jersey)
The quality of this board cover is fabulous. The one thing I do not like about it is that the side seams, which are intended to enable a better fit (I guess), don't drop to the side enough for my taste. As such, there is a slight seam on the upper surface of the ironing board cover, albeit it is on the very edge. Seems like they could have given the material another 1/4 to 1/2 inch all the way around and had a more perfect fit. I haven't washed it yet, but will not be putting it in the dryer.

 "Great!... when it works" 2009-06-12
By A. Jones (Central Texas)
This iron was very powerful and quick to heat up and I had no trouble filling with water and I liked the "visible" window to see how much water was left.

I attribute many irons that leak to allowing them to run empty and then refilling while at full temperature.. the metals inside bend and go crazy with sudden cold water against them.

I could never figure out how to shut the thing off aside from letting the auto shutoff feature to do the job without having to turn the ring on top.... but the auto shutoff worked fine.

My problem was that after 4 months and working perfectly, it just stopped heating. The little red light could come on, but the lower amber light that shows when its heating would never come on again.

Its ashamed to put so much energy into a product to have a little switch kill the whole thing.

I"m not sure why this is such a problem among Rowenta Irons.

I search the internet and thought I was buying the best of the best... apparently not.

A chain is only as good as the weakest link... the electronic switches are the weakest link on these irons.

I have no complaints about the rest of the iron.

Owning this was a bit like going to nice restaurant and everything being perfect, except the fly in your soup.

My point is, I think Rowenta either needs to step up to the plate and finish their well made irons with comparable electronics that don't go bad so often or just make a cheap iron and charge less at the expense of their good name which they are killing anyway.

This inconsistency in workmanship amongst top of the line iron companies seems to be fairly common based on the reviews I'm reading. I'm starting to think a cheap iron is as good as an expensive one!

I need an iron "tommorrow" not in several weeks after some service center fixes it... .I went out and bought a 27.00 Black and Decker that did the trick.

I guess I'll have the Rowenta as a backup when I finally get it back from the service center. "After I pay shipping"

 "slightly disappointing" 2009-06-04
By Jules (NC United States)
I bought this iron after reading excellent reviews on other websites and after friends raved about Rowenta Irons. I made sure I got a Rowenta made in Germany rather than one made in China, since the ones made in China seem to have a lot of problems.

The first disappointing thing about this model is I cannot seem to get a lot of steam out of it when pressing the burst of stem button, also the sliding piece which turns on the amount of steam or self-cleaning option is very flimsy cheap plastic and it's not very clear what setting you are on after sliding it.

It also is a pain in the neck to fill with water, you have to lay it flat (instead of upright like many irons) and pour the tiniest amount of water in the hole very slowly or it will overflow all over the place. I can't seem to fill it all the way up, even after to standing it up to settle the water. This is very time consuming and messy.

Other than that, it is attractive and light weight. I wouldn't say it irons any better than $30 dollar irons I have previously owned.

My T-fal diffusion iron with the easy glide surface, which I loved, died after 5 years. As soon as T-Fal comes out with next model of that iron,(later this month, I believe) I will be buying one. And my Rowenta will sit in the closet.

 "Don't buy this iron!" 2008-12-18
By Lora C. Roberts (Branchville, AL United States)
I got this iron and when I purchased a faulty Rowenta ironing board, the iron fell off and the sole plate bent. Rowenta replaced the ironing board and iron but the replacement ironing board wobbles and that caused the replacement iron to fall off and guess what....bent sole plate! I have had many irons fall over the years, either off the shelf or off the ironing board...this is the first iron I have ever had that the sole plate bent! Stick to a less expensive iron. It is not worth the money for this one. Of course the falling off the defective ironing board also caused the iron to leak.

The amount of steam you get out of this iron is amazing! It makes getting wrinkles out an easy job. I hate ironing, but do not mind so much with this iron because it makes the job much easier. This is the worst iron I have ever owned. I am a quilter and I have to use spray starch in order to get this thing to even press a seam properly on cotton and the temperature is set on high! If you have a cotton article of clothing that is just ever so slightly wrinkled..forget about it. Don't waste your money. I happened to mention to 2 other quilters about my Rowenta and they said they had them in the past and they were not happy with them at all and would never own one again. I just bought a Panasonic cordless and I love it!! Good bye Rowenta forever!! If I could, I would give this no stars!

I just received this board. It's larger than it looks. I was surprised at how wide it is. It's about 50% wider than "normal" boards. Almost like you're ironing on a table.

It's super sturdy and the entire unit is made of heavy duty steel so the board is a bit heavy. It's built like a tank so I expect it to last a long time.

"Works, but takes forever to get out wrinkles" 2009-07-18
By FLFan (NH United States)
I picked this up at a discount store, thinking I got a great deal. I immediately checked reviews here when I got home, and became worried about the steamer's performance. I followed the directions exactly. Steamer didn't work on the first 15 primes of the steam button. I was holding the steamer vertically. My husband tried it horizontally, and it immediately steamed and kept working when turned vertical. It does work.

The only problem is that the water "tank" is smaller than on most toy squirt guns, and the small bursts of steam it produces don't last very long. I tried it out on one of my 2 yo daughter's cotton sundresses. It did get rid of most of the wrinkles, but took many, many presses and 5-10 minutes to use. My husband commented that it would have been faster to just run an iron over the dress. True!

I thought this may take the place of a large steamer, but plan on returning it and getting a regular garment steamer with continuous steam. Only $20 more, and it will be a quick way to ease out wrinkles.

By Punk Rock Reader (Hollywood, CA United States)
This Steam and Press worked great for a about a year then the steamer stopped working. You do need to follow the instructions, especially for initial use, to get it to work properly. It did spit out water with the steam but it worked well for clothing, silk, drapes etc. I have not tried cleaning it yet, as it is not designed like a regular sized steam iron, so I'm not sure if cleaning it will work. I'll give it a try. In the meantime I am shopping for a different portable hand-held steamer.

"Not so great for travel." 2008-06-23
By Ash (Brooklyn, NY)
I purchased this steam brush product to take with me on a specific trip that involved packing a few skirts and dresses. The iron itself is a little heavier than I would have liked for traveling, and when attempting to use the product, I found that its performance was not as lickety-split as the ad promised. When at home, using my regular iron would be just as time efficient and the same amount of work. And as far as travel goes, it's not worth the extra weight.

"Iron leaks all over clothes" 2009-05-19
By Beverly E. Hughes (Southern California)
I wanted a really good iron so after much investigation I decided to buy a Rowenta. It was very pricey but I figured that you get what you pay for. I must say that I am disappointed because every time I use the iron it leaks all over the item being ironed. If it didn't leak it would be a very good iron. I can't understand how Rowenta can make irons for so many years and not be able to make one that doesn't leak.

"Power cord seems to be an engineering defect" 2009-02-16
By Legal Eagle
I have owned 2 Rowentas over the last 4 years and in both cases the power cords eventually shorted out within the housing of the iron. The latest cord failure resulted in blue flames shooting out of the rear of the iron. I detached the rear panel and discovered the rubber cord covering burned through aprox 1.5 inches before the 3 internal wires (1 white, 1 green, and 1 black)split off. I pulled back the outer covering and discovered the black wire had completely burned through. The white and green wires seem undamaged. I'm not sure but it looks like the wrong gauge of wire was used, thus resulting in over-heating. I'm not planning on buying another Rowenta as a result of my past experiences with this manuafacturer.

This is the first quality iron I spent money on after owning Black and Decker and others. I'm very pleased with this purchase and it certainly makes the chore of ironing easier.

I love the water tank large capacity. I can iron 8 cotton shirts before I need to refill the tank. While some complain that this iron is heavy, I can't say that made it harder for me to use for extended period of time. It glides easily and I rarely feel the need to press down on it.

I don't enjoy ironing and I let my stuff sit for 2-3 weeks before I get to it. With this iron, it makes ironing a little easier.
