"Professional Iron setup by Rowenta" 2007-12-23

I bought this iron myself and then one of my daughters sent me the ironing board with the rack to hold it. I use them all the time with my sewing and quilting and just love them! What more can I say?

 "Finding this item" 2007-12-02
By ma (florida)
My daughter has the DG-980 and it's the best way to do ironing. I love this product so much, that I actually go to her home and help her with the ironing. Rowenta discontinued the DG-980, and they replaced it with the DG5030. I recently purchased the new model DG5030 for my daughter-in-law and I was not impressed. I would like to get one for myself, but I will not get the new model. I know of a couple of friends who also purchased the new model and are not satisfied with it. Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase the DG-980? (even a refurbished one) Thanks!

This iron was great for about a year, then it started to spit and leak water. It quit working soon after that. Rowenta just did not care-the warranty was for one year. The iron is too expensive to last just this long.

This is now my THIRD Rowenta Steam Generator Iron. After only 5 months, this one stopped working too. It gets quite expensive to keep returning these. If it's out of warranty, then the cost to repair is more than the cost of a new one. Oh, how I miss my Euro Pro......

We ordered this item when our last steam generator(not Rowenta brand)broke down after a year. This was pricey but since we were already hooked on the steam generator we took the plunge. We like the long steam cord, removable water resevior, and the amount of steam generated that reduces ironing time. We hope this product will last longer than the one before.

This system Rowenta'S DG050 , previously available only to professionals, offers homeowners the advantages of separating steam generation from the iron. Separate steam generation is ideal for heavy ironing and specialty sewing and craft work; it means the iron weighs less and steam generation goes on and on, with fewer interruptions for refilling. Rowenta's DG 050 steam generator holds 33 ounces of tap water, enough for 90 minutes of continuous steaming. A flexible 68-inch tube connects the generator to the iron and permits the generator (11 by 6 by 8-3/4 inches) to be placed on the ironing board or on the floor. For safety

I have owned Rowenta irons for years and when the Steam generator came out I purchased it. Love it while it worked. After less than two years the on/ off button just suddenly stopped working. The customer service depatment was less than helpful. I would certainly think more than twice before purchasing another Rowenta.

 "Bad Switch" 2004-08-08
By rem7 (USA)
This steam-iron system was a great "idea", but poorly built. The switch went out on mine too. It gets up to pressure but the sole plate will not get hot. It was great while it lasted. Not sure I'll buy another one.

 "Consider alternatives before purchase" 2004-05-11
By
The unit worked for one year and five months and the switch died (made in France not Germany). The estimate for repair is 50-70% of the cost of the machine plus shipping to the regional service center. While the steam generator is a dream to use, the cost of repairing or replacing it is not real appealing.

 "Miracle iron!" 2003-07-25
By Marion Stephens (Provo, Utah United States)
Unbelievable- this iron makes me actually look forward to ironing. I have had 4 frinds bring their ironing here and they all want one. I have heard of this iron for over 10 years and thought - how dumb to spend so much money on an iron. I wish I had bought one ten years ago and if it broke today I would go out tomorrow and buy another! Honestly- 1/3 the time and the whole pile of levi shirts and pants looks newly bought! I wish I could sell this product on commission- I'd be a millionaire.

 "Great Travel Accessory" 2009-04-18
By J Keistler (Lake Jackson, Texas USA)
I travel twice monthly on business and this Rowenta normally accompanies on car trips. I have a couple of travel irons, but what I really like about this Rowenta is the size. It is fairly long with the non-folding handle; the handle holds the water. However, this long handle is also what makes it easier than the average travel iron to hold and use. I have read other reviews that have had problems with theirs. All I can say is that with dozens of uses, mine has performed flawlessly. The slide on/off brush/steam attachment that covers the smooth soleplate certainly hasn't broken on mine. However, I seldom use the iron as a steamer as I starch instead. This may indicate a QC problem on Rowenta's part, of course. I travel by car with a large duffel and the length of this iron is no problem. For those with severe size constraints, another iron might be better.

"A tour director in Europe" 2009-04-09
By Nicole Kreigenhofer (San Francisco, CA)
I am an instructor at the International Tour Management Institute ([...]) as well as a tour director. I spend 4-5 months a year working/traveling as a tour director in Italy & France. This steamer/iron is a dream come true in countries that don't allow hotels to provide irons to their guests. It has served me well over the years. It is small, comes with a soft case and is easy to use. Don't leave home without it! The only downside is that the steamer head attachment is made of plastic and can crack easily if not packed in your suitcase correctly.

 "VERY poor quality" 2008-07-10
By Just Another New Yorker (New York City, USA)
Boy do I wish I'd read the reviews here before we purchased our Rowenta steam iron! Like many others, ours never worked properly: 1. The brush attachment broke right away (should have returned it then, but we just accepted it and continued to use it), 2. It constantly leaked water over our clothes, floor, selves when in use, 3. It was always REALLY DIFFICULT to get it to steam, requiring repeated, fast presses of the button until our thumbs were sore, 4. It finally just died today--stopped working for no reason. For such a simple product as an iron to break after just a short time, you know the quality is POOR. BEWARE OF THIS PRODUCT and, by association, THIS BRAND. We will certainly never buy a Rowenta again!

"Not as good as the DA-55" 2008-06-08
By Dave L (Scottsdale, AZ)
I bought this as a replacement for my DA-55, which I wore out after about 7 years of daily use. First off, the water capacity is very small. You have to refill after every 1-2 garments. Secondly, the quality is poor compared to the DA-55. The heating element burned out after about 1 year. I would not recommend buying this model

 "Excellent product" 2008-03-30
By Living Stereo (Pensacola, FL United States)
I've had a DA-75 travel iron for years. I have used it many times on trips to steam out wrinkles from suits, slacks, and shirts while on the hanger. I've also used it many times at home when I was in a rush.

It is well-constructed, comes with a brush that is great for removing lint, and has a convenient travel bag.

It heats quickly and produces adequate steam. As another reviewer stated, the reservoir is small because it is a *travel* iron. The reservior is easy to refill.

As a rebuttal to another reviewer, I find it amusing that anyone could write a bad review of this product. It has given me excellent service and has saved me from having to use questionable hotel irons.

"Still not sure about performance" 2008-10-09
By J. Moody
I bought this iron and began comparing it to my old $7 Black & Decker Iron and it fell short in a few areas. It's a little weighty, which could be a good thing for pressing out stubborn wrinkles or bad when having to iron a lot. The cord is noticably about 2 foot shorter and heavier. It seems to get in the way more. Although it says anti-drip and no leaking, when I sit the iron down between garment sections it spits water from the soleplate and leaks water back out of the tank onto my hand. The temperature light tends to go on and off often, as though it can't keep warm. Still undecided whether I got a dud.

 "Great!... when it works" 2009-06-12
By A. Jones (Central Texas)
This iron was very powerful and quick to heat up and I had no trouble filling with water and I liked the "visible" window to see how much water was left.

I attribute many irons that leak to allowing them to run empty and then refilling while at full temperature.. the metals inside bend and go crazy with sudden cold water against them.

I could never figure out how to shut the thing off aside from letting the auto shutoff feature to do the job without having to turn the ring on top.... but the auto shutoff worked fine.

My problem was that after 4 months and working perfectly, it just stopped heating. The little red light could come on, but the lower amber light that shows when its heating would never come on again.

Its ashamed to put so much energy into a product to have a little switch kill the whole thing.

I"m not sure why this is such a problem among Rowenta Irons.

I search the internet and thought I was buying the best of the best... apparently not.

A chain is only as good as the weakest link... the electronic switches are the weakest link on these irons.

I have no complaints about the rest of the iron.

Owning this was a bit like going to nice restaurant and everything being perfect, except the fly in your soup.

My point is, I think Rowenta either needs to step up to the plate and finish their well made irons with comparable electronics that don't go bad so often or just make a cheap iron and charge less at the expense of their good name which they are killing anyway.

This inconsistency in workmanship amongst top of the line iron companies seems to be fairly common based on the reviews I'm reading. I'm starting to think a cheap iron is as good as an expensive one!

I need an iron "tommorrow" not in several weeks after some service center fixes it... .I went out and bought a 27.00 Black and Decker that did the trick.

I guess I'll have the Rowenta as a backup when I finally get it back from the service center. "After I pay shipping"

 "slightly disappointing" 2009-06-04
By Jules (NC United States)
I bought this iron after reading excellent reviews on other websites and after friends raved about Rowenta Irons. I made sure I got a Rowenta made in Germany rather than one made in China, since the ones made in China seem to have a lot of problems.

The first disappointing thing about this model is I cannot seem to get a lot of steam out of it when pressing the burst of stem button, also the sliding piece which turns on the amount of steam or self-cleaning option is very flimsy cheap plastic and it's not very clear what setting you are on after sliding it.

It also is a pain in the neck to fill with water, you have to lay it flat (instead of upright like many irons) and pour the tiniest amount of water in the hole very slowly or it will overflow all over the place. I can't seem to fill it all the way up, even after to standing it up to settle the water. This is very time consuming and messy.

Other than that, it is attractive and light weight. I wouldn't say it irons any better than $30 dollar irons I have previously owned.

My T-fal diffusion iron with the easy glide surface, which I loved, died after 5 years. As soon as T-Fal comes out with next model of that iron,(later this month, I believe) I will be buying one. And my Rowenta will sit in the closet.

"Works, but takes forever to get out wrinkles" 2009-07-18
By FLFan (NH United States)
I picked this up at a discount store, thinking I got a great deal. I immediately checked reviews here when I got home, and became worried about the steamer's performance. I followed the directions exactly. Steamer didn't work on the first 15 primes of the steam button. I was holding the steamer vertically. My husband tried it horizontally, and it immediately steamed and kept working when turned vertical. It does work.

The only problem is that the water "tank" is smaller than on most toy squirt guns, and the small bursts of steam it produces don't last very long. I tried it out on one of my 2 yo daughter's cotton sundresses. It did get rid of most of the wrinkles, but took many, many presses and 5-10 minutes to use. My husband commented that it would have been faster to just run an iron over the dress. True!

I thought this may take the place of a large steamer, but plan on returning it and getting a regular garment steamer with continuous steam. Only $20 more, and it will be a quick way to ease out wrinkles.

 "Worked well for a year. " 2009-01-05
By Punk Rock Reader (Hollywood, CA United States)
This Steam and Press worked great for a about a year then the steamer stopped working. You do need to follow the instructions, especially for initial use, to get it to work properly. It did spit out water with the steam but it worked well for clothing, silk, drapes etc. I have not tried cleaning it yet, as it is not designed like a regular sized steam iron, so I'm not sure if cleaning it will work. I'll give it a try. In the meantime I am shopping for a different portable hand-held steamer.

I have been using this iron for over 4 yrs and finally wore it out. Could not live without it and ordered it again.  "Not so great for travel." 2008-06-23
By Ash (Brooklyn, NY)
I purchased this steam brush product to take with me on a specific trip that involved packing a few skirts and dresses. The iron itself is a little heavier than I would have liked for traveling, and when attempting to use the product, I found that its performance was not as lickety-split as the ad promised. When at home, using my regular iron would be just as time efficient and the same amount of work. And as far as travel goes, it's not worth the extra weight.
