"Iron leaks all over clothes" 2009-05-19
By Beverly E. Hughes (Southern California)
I wanted a really good iron so after much investigation I decided to buy a Rowenta. It was very pricey but I figured that you get what you pay for. I must say that I am disappointed because every time I use the iron it leaks all over the item being ironed. If it didn't leak it would be a very good iron. I can't understand how Rowenta can make irons for so many years and not be able to make one that doesn't leak.

 "Great Iron!" 2009-03-31

We had an older iron and we have always gone with Rowenta. This new iron is much better and it came very fast, and amazon is always reliable for purchases.

"Power cord seems to be an engineering defect" 2009-02-16
By Legal Eagle
I have owned 2 Rowentas over the last 4 years and in both cases the power cords eventually shorted out within the housing of the iron. The latest cord failure resulted in blue flames shooting out of the rear of the iron. I detached the rear panel and discovered the rubber cord covering burned through aprox 1.5 inches before the 3 internal wires (1 white, 1 green, and 1 black)split off. I pulled back the outer covering and discovered the black wire had completely burned through. The white and green wires seem undamaged. I'm not sure but it looks like the wrong gauge of wire was used, thus resulting in over-heating. I'm not planning on buying another Rowenta as a result of my past experiences with this manuafacturer.

 "Makes ironing chore easier" 2009-02-08
By R. Iskaros (Little Neck, NY United States)
This is the first quality iron I spent money on after owning Black and Decker and others. I'm very pleased with this purchase and it certainly makes the chore of ironing easier.

I love the water tank large capacity. I can iron 8 cotton shirts before I need to refill the tank. While some complain that this iron is heavy, I can't say that made it harder for me to use for extended period of time. It glides easily and I rarely feel the need to press down on it.

I don't enjoy ironing and I let my stuff sit for 2-3 weeks before I get to it. With this iron, it makes ironing a little easier.

This iron works well but is much too heavy for continuous use. I'm sorry I bought it and will certainly look for a much lighter iron next time.

 "Size matters" 2009-05-20
By Nevermore
Make sure that you match your Rowenta board number to the cover; they make another cover with the exact same dimensions stated that does not fit the professional model, and has no straps underneath. I agree about washing it. Don't! It will shrink and no longer fit. Quality is overstated. It's just OK.

This did not fit as described or shown on the web, if you have the larger ironing board, do not get this, it will not work!

I should have read the reviews before purchasing this. The Rowenta ironing board already comes with a cover, so I'll save this for future use.

 "Ironing board...very nice" 2009-01-06
By kmcg (arizona)
Purchased this ironing board after doing much research. I am really happy with it. Very sturdy and height is easy to adjust. Lots of surface space. If you have small area to iron ....you may want to make sure its not too big.

I would recommend highly.

"Rowenta ZD6020 Expert Ironing Board Cover" 2008-12-16
By Kathy Housewifer
Extremely poor quality. The very first time I put the ill-fitting cover on the ironing board, the cording broke as I tried to tighten it. Now I'm stuck with an absolute mess. DO NOT PURCHASE. In fact, do not buy any of their ironing boards as you cannot find a regular-sized cover to fit them, and consequently you will have to pay much more for a Rowenta cover.

 ""Some Like it Hot"" 2009-07-08
By Jennifer M. Ryan (West Orange, NJ)
Is is possible to love an iron? I received this iron 5 days ago. I am using it for quilting & I love the steam feature. My quilting teacher recommended it. I have to admit, I had never heard of Rowenta irons!! I was hesitant because of a lot of negative reviews here. Especially regarding "leaking water". But reading the product instructions is CRITICAL to correct operation. It does not use 100% distilled water! I am using spring water to prevent dripping. So far, so good.

I actually enjoy ironing & with this baby it is a breeze. Nice movement, large water reservoir, no auto shut-off, long cord, etc. Someone stated that the temperature dial is a bit awkward which I agree with. But in the grand scheme of things this is a minor issue.

NB I paid $94.99 3 weeks ago & now Amazon is selling it for $76.99 from a different vendor! No fair. :-(

"Rowenta used to be great.. but this is a HORRIBLE iron" 2009-06-30
By P. MCGARRY (Arlington, VA)
I've used Rowenta irons for years. In January 2009 it was time for a new iron, and I bought this DX8900 professional iron. I really wish I hadn't - and too bad I already disposed of my old iron.

This Rowenta iron leaks SEVERELY from the base in the upright position after just a few months of use. The last two times I've used it, it has been almost unbearable. I've had to let it lie flat on my board in order to get any kind of use out if at all without it inundating my clothes with water after tilting it from the base to the ironing position. From what I have seen in a few other reviews, this is happening to other people as well, and even after replacements and "repairs".

I will not be buying another Rowenta iron anytime soon.. and am now about to search Amazon for a quality iron from another vendor that doesn't leak all over everything! Seriously, it was leaking puddles! I never thought I would ever write a horrible review for a Rowenta iron, but this one is just plain HORRIBLE. And for the price and the 'professional' labeling and the Rowenta name, that is simply unacceptable.

 "Rowenta DX8900 wonder" 2009-06-04
By G. C. Harris (Idaho)
I purchased this iron because I wanted one that would iron my sewing projects and also the few clothes that wrinkle like mad. It's a wonder, light, easy to use, easy to fill, and the wrinkles are gone. Too bad one can't use it on one's skin. But it's great for all my projects. Easy to lift too. And you decide when it's time for it to turn off. Nice!!!

Crazy for Quilts: A Celebration of the Quilter's Art (Town Square Giftbook Series)Art Quilts: A Celebration: 400 Stunning Contemporary DesignsMasters: Art Quilts: Major Works by Leading Artists (The Masters)I was disappointed at first and I am still adjusting to this iron. I love the non auto shut off - been waiting a long time for a major company to come out with this feature. The water container is huge and fabulous. You MUST follow the directions precisely to have the iron work correctly. It steams beautifully but you must be careful of sticky stuff on the sole plate so keep the cleaner they recommend on hand and a cloth to wipe the sole plate clean now and again. I'd probably give it a 5 if it weren't for this problem.

"Good, with a few caveats" 2009-04-09
By JMD (Renton, WA United States)
My Black & Decker Classic died, and when I went to replace it, I saw this Rowenta with no auto shutoff (my primary requirement) plus features the Classic lacked, so I decided to try it.

The balance and heft are different from the Classic, so I'm still getting used to that part. It steams better than the Classic, and it has steam bursts which I've always wanted so I really like that aspect. It presses better than my old iron.

What I don't like: it has a single light, which is only on while it's heating (it goes off when it reaches the proper temperature). I can't glance over at the iron and tell if it's on or not. The temperature dial is under the handle, so I have to peer from the side to see where it's set. And the round dial takes more therbligs than my old iron which used a lever.

I think I'll be happy with this iron, but I think it could be a bit better with an On light and a more user-friendly temp control.

By Meryl L. Metlen (Olympia, Washington)
I purchased this Rowenta iron a year ago,and it leaked from the first day I used it. I have put up with it for a year, and finally I have had it! An expensive iron should not leak. When I made enquires about getting it fixed, it was very complicated and frustrating. I have used it for a year and it still leaks. It has gotten worse with use. I am sending the iron back to Rowenta with my receipt and experience. This was very disappointing to say the least. I am sorry I put up with it for a year.

 "Great while it lasted" 2009-06-22
By MadMich (New Rochelle, NY United States)
Rowenta DX-8800 1750-Watt Professional Iron

I had this iron for a couple of years and it did a great job ironing my clothes until it started to LEAK WATER! Not fun when you are in the middle of ironing your clothes! I thought somehow the water tank had a hairline crack in it, so I started filling it halfway which worked for a short time. Then it got to the point where I was putting an inch or two of water in so that it wouldn't leak. The other day I went to iron and the water (all two inches) just leaked out. I am done! This was my second Rowenta ( I think the first one died an unhappy death also.) There will not be a third Rowenta in this house. Gone shopping for a new iron.

The iron never heats properly.

The water reservoir hole cover hardly opens. And worse of all, it leaks all over the place.

Find yourself another iron.

 "We had a love/hate relationship" 2009-06-13
By D. Jackson (texas)
I owned this iron for approx. 5 years. I loved the way it ironed my clothes, from t-shirts to denim jeans. About a year after I got it the power would cut off suddenly and I finally realized there was a short in the cord due to the rotating cord connection. I had read negative reviews about this, but chose to ignore them. Mmmm-hmmm. Sent it in and they were kind enough to replace the cord. Now 3 years later I am ironing and the stupid thing caught fire! Smoke was boiling out and I could see flames. After sending it in they say it is my fault due to too much calcium buildup causing the water line to rust through and water shorted the iron and that is why it caught fire. Mmmm-hmm. We live in a neighborhood with city water supply. I don't think it would have that much calcium excess in the water. They also said if I had cleaned it often this probably wouldn't have happened. I told them I use this iron at least once a week and usually always clean it with the burst cleaning feature each time I use it. Sometimes bits of calcium come out, sometimes not. Still they wouldn't do anything about it. I just thought this iron would last longer than it did for the price I paid.

 "Caught on fire" 2009-05-28
By Lisa C. Fleck
In March 2009, after I had just set my Rowenta Professional down to arrange a garment, I was startled to see flames shooting out the accordioned plastic cover that attaches to the rotating ball where the cord enters the iron. My ironing board caught on fire before I could unplug the iron, but I was able to put the fire out quickly. There were no signs of fraying in the cord, and the iron had been subjected only to normal household use. To make matters worse, Rowenta refused to admit that the cord design was defective (though I have noticed that the cord type has changed in the year since I purchased this iron, from a solid heavy round cord to a flattened "seamed" cord, which seems to be more flexible)--the company refused to even fix the iron. This iron seems to have a design defect--I've read at least three other reviews describing the same near-disaster I experienced; my case was treated exactly the same as these others: the company refused to fix the iron or take any responsibility for the damage caused by the defect. Perhaps the new cord design has eliminated the problem, but one final thought: This was my third (and I assure you, my last) Rowenta. All three of the top-of-the-line Rowentas I've owned have leaked horribly after period of use. Pay attention to these reviews--at the minimum the irons leak; at their worst they catch on fire.
