It seems alright the first time you fire it up, but there's not enough coverage on the small pressing face, and it doesn't get hot enough. I also cut my shirt and finger on the very sharp edge.
It was difficult to plug in. I had to order an adapter, and the steam function didn't work. It's well-made though, and comfortable to hold.

I own a longarm quilting business and make quilts. I use my iron a lot. My first Rowenta 6650 iron I purchased in February 18, 2008. It started leaking out of the bottom of the iron. It was still under warranty so I sent it to Rowenta's replacement dealer in California. They determined it could not be repaired so they sent me a new iron which I received in October 2008. The new iron is now leaking in the same area as the first.
I called Rowenta customer service and they were no help at all. Needless to say I will not be purchasing a Rowenta iron in the future. I just purchased a Oliso.

I've looked a very long time for a good, heavier-weight iron with NO auto-shutoff. I really like this iron. The temp stays constant. As I piece quilts I need it to stay on for longer periods of time. It is great, too, for the regular ironing of clothes.

I nicknamed this iron the, "Wonder Iron", because you wonder where your ironing went when using it - it IS that much faster than your conventional off the shelf irons in the discount stores!! I've never had a pricier iron but I will never look back after using the DX6650. It is a good, dependable little iron. Any wrinkles just disappear. Creases are crisp. No water spewing out on fabric. This is a dress down model, (my preference), but it still has a self clean feature. **One thing about Rownenta Irons** I feel it is necessary to mention to anyone thinking about purchasing one. Some are made in Germany, some are not. Pay attention and you will be able to notice the differences. In my opinion it is well worth a little more $$$ for the German manufactured. Aw, go ahead and buy one, you will never regret it and you will have more time for yourself. I am thinking it has cut my ironing time in something like half, but now ironing is so much more enjoyable I am ironing more items than I had before. I just can't say enough good about this DX6650 Rowenta iron.

I have owned Rowenta irons for years and when the Steam generator came out I purchased it. Love it while it worked. After less than two years the on/ off button just suddenly stopped working. The customer service depatment was less than helpful. I would certainly think more than twice before purchasing another Rowenta.

This steam-iron system was a great "idea", but poorly built. The switch went out on mine too. It gets up to pressure but the sole plate will not get hot. It was great while it lasted. Not sure I'll buy another one.

The unit worked for one year and five months and the switch died (made in France not Germany). The estimate for repair is 50-70% of the cost of the machine plus shipping to the regional service center. While the steam generator is a dream to use, the cost of repairing or replacing it is not real appealing.

Unbelievable- this iron makes me actually look forward to ironing. I have had 4 frinds bring their ironing here and they all want one. I have heard of this iron for over 10 years and thought - how dumb to spend so much money on an iron. I wish I had bought one ten years ago and if it broke today I would go out tomorrow and buy another! Honestly- 1/3 the time and the whole pile of levi shirts and pants looks newly bought! I wish I could sell this product on commission- I'd be a millionaire.

We've owned several. Beautiful weight and functionality.
However, the last one leaked uncontrollably from a manufacturing flaw. When I dissected the iron to discover why, I found the wire clamp on the red rubber hose to one of the steam/spray buttons had been put on in such a way that the red rubber had been torn apart during the manufacturing process. If Sunbeam fixes this, they'll have a winner. But there seems no easy way to get through to the company.
I'm buying one more, hoping for solid manufacturing, because otherwise we love it.

Wanting to avoid spending $60-80 on an iron, this lower priced model ($32) looked promising. It had a plain design with no gimmicky setting controls, a good weight, and solid feel. I was also taken in by the "Steam Master" name, and the advertised claims made regarding its vertical steaming capability and "Shot of Steam" feature. I didn't really associate the Sunbeam name with quality, but if the suggestions held up regarding the steam, it looked to be a good buy compared with the other junky irons available in this price range.
To test the iron's capabilities, I first used it on a pair of khaki pants that were worn once and had a moderate level of wrinkles. With a Black & Decker iron I used to use, the steam action made fairly simple work of it and the pants could be made to look unworn with relatively little effort. That was not the case using this Sunbeam model. The steam action is poor, and the "Shot of Steam" is just a small wisp or puff. Bottom line, the steam and "shot of steam" didn't do much to penetrate the fabric. On top of poor steam level, the iron does not really get very hot - I hadn't paid attention to the Wattage when I purchased it, but it turns out that it is only 1200 watts (the low end of iron wattages), so the modest temperature is not surprising. But this means you need to go over the same area many times to press out the wrinkles. Heavier wrinkles were not eliminated with this iron. Overall, I was dissatisfied and returned the iron for a Rowenta Power Duo (which I also returned), and then, finally, for a Rowenta Focus (which I kept).
I was willing to pay more money for an iron that would do a better, faster job. However, for those on a tighter budget, or who don't mind having to make lots of passes when ironing, this is probably an OK iron to have. The settings dial seems fairly sturdy, so the iron might be expected to last. I'd bet that you won't find anything much better if you choose to stay in this price range.

In over 50 years this is without a doubt the very best iron that I have found. For the $$ you can't beat it.....I bought one for $60.00 and it leaks and I do not like it at all.

As with the other reviewer, this iron leaked uncontrollably. It leaked whether horizontal or vertical. It leaks from the bottom and even where you retract the cord. This is the worse iron we have ever bought. We are trying to return ours.

This worked great for the first three months I had it. I loved that I could actually see the water level in the chamber (my previous iron didn't have this feature), I loved the burst of steam feature, which was especially handy for my kids' corduroy pants. In fact, I was just happy to have a steam feature that worked at all. I was almost enjoying ironing for a while there.
Skip to three months and two weeks. The iron now leaks more than it steams, my ironing board is soaking wet by the time I've done one shirt and the reservoir needs to be refilled after I've ironed two. It's not leaking from the visible reservoir areas or soleplate, either -- it's pouring out of the housing whenever the iron is horizontal. I've contacted Amazon who refuses to deal with it since it's been longer than 30 days, and I can't get a single person at Sunbeam to return my calls or my emails. Thankfully it "only" took $27 to realize I'll be steering clear of Sunbeam products in the future.
