"NOT WORTH THE PRICE TAG" 2009-07-14
By E-Shopper (Chicago, IL)
Over the years, I have owned way less expensive irons which were dropped, knocked over and generally abused. Those irons gave me years of service. Now that I'm married with 2 kids, I thought I would upgrade my choice of iron to the much lauded Rowenta. Big Mistake! The iron peformed well enough for the first couple of years, but suddenly today out of the blue, it quit working on me! This overly expensive iron has been treated with the utmost care. I am the only one who uses it and it has never been dropped or otherwise traumatized. "Ironically", my cheap iron from back in the day was the one I should have stuck with. The other disappointing twist to this is that the iron only has a 1 year warranty (gee, wonder why). I called Customer Service at Rowenta to see if they would stand by their product. The very polite CS rep told me I could ship the iron back for about $30-60 (my expense, of course) and they would "see" if they could fix it! Sometimes you get what you pay for, but sometimes you get taken for a ride. DON'T BUY ROWENTA IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR IRON TO WORK FOR MORE THAN A YEAR!

 "The beauty of a Rowenta !" 2009-01-02
By Rizzo (Denver, CO)
Ever since I had my first Rowenta, I disregarded all those others. There must be something special and it must be the ability to make the pain of ironing easier! Rowentas come in many styles nowadays. I especially like the Burst of Steam button which clearly fixes some creases, especially those accidently made while ironing. The power press model has the Pro Vertical Steam button with a powerful burst for those upright garments. This helps for those outfits that don't need ironing, just getting the kinks out.

Although this boasts a self-clean system, I can only hope it does well, as I have not noticed it yet, but it is designed to flush loose the mineral deposits.

As for the Variable Steam adjustment, there isn't much of a difference in the lower vs. higher shot of steam, buts it's good to know the stream is adequate all around.

I like the large water Tank (8oz) and a clear view it allows. And of course it boasts the Anti-Drip system which prevents spitting and leaking when the thermostat is on a lower setting. This is very important, so you don't have drops of water spewing out unintentionally.

The Anti-Calc System is designed as an integrated cartridge for extended life of the iron. The unit is stainless steel.

So, yes there are good features, and to me, the Rowentas are the best. Iron away!....Rizzo

"Fine for U.S. use; didn't work in Europe" 2009-07-15
By Traveler
The iron worked fine when I tested it at home, but when I tried to use it (since it has dual voltage) in Europe, the prongs didn't fit in the outlets. Then, I connected the iron to the converter, whereupon it fried the converter. So, not only didn't I have an iron I could use, I was out my converter as well.

What an amazing little iron. This iron has all the features of a full size Iron. I love it for my crafting projects, but also find it useful for small ironing jobs when I don't want to drag out my big iron. It's great to be able to get steam from such a small and lightweight iron. With a dual voltage selector, I look forward to using it for travel.

This steamer is okay, but it spits and sputters a lot even though I followed the instructions and only filled it with tap water. It mostly makes your clothes wet, which is okay if you steam them the day before you plan on wearing them! If I could find my receipt I'd send this one back.

"Very Useful During Trip, But Did *Not* Last Too Long" 2009-06-05
By 'god_provides' (New Jersey (Hudson County))
After reading many reviews and comparing similar products online, I finally purchased this conveniently-sized handheld steamer last year to use during a Christian conference. We were conference table exhibitors and needed to steam a slightly wrinkled table covering, as well as steam some of our clothing we would be wearing during the conference. It worked very well on the lighter, softer fabrics (rayon, polyester, lambswool), but it did not work as well on heavier, thicker fabrics (cotton/lycra, wool), especially those needing creases. Thanking God, at least we were able to steam out most of the light wrinkles on the polyester table covering before the conference began. It was a very handy tool on-site, and did not take up much room amongst all else we needed to pack away under the table. That was such a big plus to us: the steamer is light to carry around and very convenient for travel purposes (it also includes a travel bag).

From the photo graphic of this steamer, you can see that the water chamber is very small (bottom of handle), so depending on the amount and thickness of fabric to be steamed, it may need to be refilled more than once and could become time-consuming. For us, this was not a big problem, but for those who may have time-constraints or do not have easy on-site access to water, it could be an annoyance (so be prepared ahead of time). There was a safe and steady stream of steam, especially when the water chamber is first filled. Do not worry that the steamer makes a slight buzzing or gurgling sound, but be careful, because certain parts are hot to the touch (top of steamer handle).

Now the problem: My husband and I were able to use this handy travel steamer only for a few days during last year's trip (approx. 5 or so times); and upon return, it was placed back into its box for storage. I do not recall exactly, but it may have been briefly taken out of the box sometime later to be used again. Then almost a year later, we took it out this year to steam something, but found that the steamer just no longer works! We tried several times after checking what could be wrong, but there is just no power going through after switching on the button. Well, at least it worked during the conference we attended last year (which we primarily needed it for), so it was still a blessing of God's provision. Perhaps this particular steamer we received is defective, but it is past the allowable time for a refund from Amazon.com. I may contact the manufacturer directly to inquire further, and hope there will be no extra fees for it to be possibly fixed or replaced.

Other than the above, this steamer would have been a very good purchase for us (and I would have given more stars on this review). However, for the price and relatively short product life (again, keeping in mind that it may have just been a manufacturer defect on this particular steamer that we received), you may want to further research and compare other travel steamers before deciding to try this one. This was a very useful and convenient travel steamer, but hopefully, this manufacturer will continuously improve upon its quality and longevity, especially since there is not that many similar choices on the market at this time.

I pray this review was helpful to you; and I will try remember to add an update later on, after I contact the manufacturer (God willing). May you all have a blessed day, in Christ, 'god_provides'

By Kindle Fan (St Louis, MO USA)
The iron works well and has nice features, especially the retracting cord and the no drip water feature. Unfortunatley the overall quality is lacking. We have had this a little over a year and it has quit functioning. It appears that the safety auto off function is broken and shuts the iron off before it even heats up. It is now useless. This is the first Rowenta iron we have had and it will be the last. The irons are pricey and not any better than the Black and Decker, Sunbeams, etc. especially if you look at the high price of the Rowenta's.

"great - until it stops working" 2009-02-09

We're on our 3rd Rowenta Effective DX1900. When these models work, they're great. But after paying a decent amount of money for it, I expected it to last. Now on our 3rd replacement, we're getting rid of it. The safety auto-off switch is defective, and it keeps turning off every 10-15 seconds. I used to be able to shake it violently to make the auto-switch turn back on, but now I have to unplug and plug it in every time. I tried calling customer service, but they were totally unhelpful and wouldn't own up that they are selling a defective product. As I told the rep, I'll never buy a Rowenta product again.

 "Happy Ironer" 2009-04-13
By Wendy S. Reebel (Chicago)
I am addicted to freshly ironed sheets. This began after several fortunate stays in high end hotels with lush, smooth sheets. I have spent too many hours striving to achieve this same level of luxury in my own home. I purchased the Rowenta DG8030 to reduce those hours. I am very pleased with the outcome. In less than half the time I spent with my standard iron, I now complete this task with ease.

For other items, shirts and pants, the Rowenta G8030 takes a bit of patience and care. Using a spray bottle of water helps to achieve a crisp result.

There is an initial vibration when the motor starts and intermittently throughout an ironing session, but I quickly learned this is normal.

If you're someone who consistently uses steam to iron to create your desired result, this Rowenta is a winner.

This is actually a present for my wife who does tons of sewing and is a crafter. We kid her as having more material than Wal-Mart. I purchased an earlier brand a few years ago, and she has used it almost daily till it finally quit.. I figured I would update her to a new one, but at the same time felt bad about about disposing of the old one. Well, I took the old one to a local appliance repair shop, and for $50.00 It is as good as new. Now she has a back up or can give it away to one of the kids. Like the old saying goes, "if mom ain't happy nobody is happy."

SHE IS VERY HAPPY.

"Feel like a pro at home" 2009-03-02
By David A. Schwarzkopf (living wherever the Navy tells him to.)
First off, I wouldn't even consider using this iron with one of the flimsy supermarket ironing boards....something like the Rowenta IB6300 is much more in order, (it also has a shelf to place the reservoir, very handy).

Now on to the actual review. We've only had this iron for a couple of weeks, if I experience any nasty longevity issues, I'll be sure to address them with updates to this review.

Wow, this iron/steam generator is making ironing less of a chore. We'd previously owned the Rowenta Perfect and Advancer irons, both of which my wife sent on one way trips to a hardwood floor, (while the floor survived with large gouges, the irons, unfortunately, did not). After being spoiled with the Rowenta brand, and needing a replacement, we opted for the DG8030.

This thing is pricey! If I didn't require a large amount of clothes ironed, I'd be more tempted to just take everything to the cleaners. We bit the bullet and haven't looked back since. Ironing creases used to take time and a determined effort. Now it's just a quick pull on the steam button, and you're in business. Need to iron out or adjust a crease? Too easy! I can't vouch for using this vertical with drapes/blinds, but for uniforms and dress clothes, I haven't seen better. Combined with a quality ironing board, (as mentioned above), I've cut down my ironing time by more than half.

I especially liked the large reservoir and the fact that you can refill it without waiting for the iron to cool down. If you iron often and can manage the price tag, this is it.

"Works well but not worth the $?" 2009-02-13
By John D. Leggett
I ordered the expert version, since there were so many issues with the 5030. It works well - heats up really quickly, you can see water level and it has a warning light on water level anyway. You can also refill without having to wait for the iron to cool. The long cords are handy. This was my first experience with a steam generator iron and honestly, while it works fine, it is/was a lot of money and doesn't seem all that much of an improvement over a conventional steam iron. The vertical steaming doesn't work too well. After holding the trigger for a few seconds, the amount of steam drops off significantly - not really enough for efficient vertical steaming.

 ""Some Like it Hot"" 2009-07-08
By Jennifer M. Ryan (West Orange, NJ)
Is is possible to love an iron? I received this iron 5 days ago. I am using it for quilting & I love the steam feature. My quilting teacher recommended it. I have to admit, I had never heard of Rowenta irons!! I was hesitant because of a lot of negative reviews here. Especially regarding "leaking water". But reading the product instructions is CRITICAL to correct operation. It does not use 100% distilled water! I am using spring water to prevent dripping. So far, so good.

I actually enjoy ironing & with this baby it is a breeze. Nice movement, large water reservoir, no auto shut-off, long cord, etc. Someone stated that the temperature dial is a bit awkward which I agree with. But in the grand scheme of things this is a minor issue.

NB I paid $94.99 3 weeks ago & now Amazon is selling it for $76.99 from a different vendor! No fair. :-(

"Rowenta used to be great.. but this is a HORRIBLE iron" 2009-06-30
By P. MCGARRY (Arlington, VA)
I've used Rowenta irons for years. In January 2009 it was time for a new iron, and I bought this DX8900 professional iron. I really wish I hadn't - and too bad I already disposed of my old iron.

This Rowenta iron leaks SEVERELY from the base in the upright position after just a few months of use. The last two times I've used it, it has been almost unbearable. I've had to let it lie flat on my board in order to get any kind of use out if at all without it inundating my clothes with water after tilting it from the base to the ironing position. From what I have seen in a few other reviews, this is happening to other people as well, and even after replacements and "repairs".

I will not be buying another Rowenta iron anytime soon.. and am now about to search Amazon for a quality iron from another vendor that doesn't leak all over everything! Seriously, it was leaking puddles! I never thought I would ever write a horrible review for a Rowenta iron, but this one is just plain HORRIBLE. And for the price and the 'professional' labeling and the Rowenta name, that is simply unacceptable.

And you decide when it's time for it to turn off. Nice!!!

I love the non auto shut off - been waiting a long time for a major company to come out with this feature. The water container is huge and fabulous. You MUST follow the directions precisely to have the iron work correctly. It steams beautifully but you must be careful of sticky stuff on the sole plate so keep the cleaner they recommend on hand and a cloth to wipe the sole plate clean now and again. I'd probably give it a 5 if it weren't for this problem.

"Good, with a few caveats" 2009-04-09
By JMD (Renton, WA United States)
My Black & Decker Classic died, and when I went to replace it, I saw this Rowenta with no auto shutoff (my primary requirement) plus features the Classic lacked, so I decided to try it.

The balance and heft are different from the Classic, so I'm still getting used to that part. It steams better than the Classic, and it has steam bursts which I've always wanted so I really like that aspect. It presses better than my old iron.

What I don't like: it has a single light, which is only on while it's heating (it goes off when it reaches the proper temperature). I can't glance over at the iron and tell if it's on or not. The temperature dial is under the handle, so I have to peer from the side to see where it's set. And the round dial takes more therbligs than my old iron which used a lever.

I think I'll be happy with this iron, but I think it could be a bit better with an On light and a more user-friendly temp control.
